IT Professional

Sharing the knowledge I've came across through my own on the job experiences.

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Sylvia Randolph.  I've been working on a IT Help Desk team as a federal employee for the past six years.  I've done everything from creating custom network cables from CAT5 cabling to troubleshooting why a computer is behaving strangely.  On my blog, I will post problems that I've came across in my career and how I resolved them, the challenging struggles that I've experienced working on a help desk team and what to expect for service as a customer from IT Help Desk support.

My Story

I grew up in a small town of less than 800 people in central Iowa along with my two younger siblings, a brother & a sister.  My first memory of working with a computer was in elementary school.  We were using computers to do photoshop as well as playing Oregon Trail or Math Blaster Plus.  As I was growing up, my vision of what I would be when I grew up changed from being a writer in 4th grade, a teacher in 6th grade, a hardware technician in 9th grade and I finally settled on being an IT Professional my freshman year in college.  I was contacted by a friend's brother asking if I was still interested in information technology.  Of course, I replied yes.  He informed me that they had a student job opening at the location he worked for and to submit my application and resume.  I've never been the same since.  My technical knowledge has at least multiplied times 100 since I started back in 2004.

I graduated from a community college in 2006 with my A.A.S in Information Technology Network Administration.  I worked full-time for two years before deciding to pursue finishing my bachelor degree in Management Information Systems at Grand View University.  I'm not your typical college student though.  I'm married to J with whom I have a beautiful daughter, K.  With our growing family and being the breadwinner of the family, I decided to go to school at night full-time on top of working my full-time job at the IT Help Desk.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog.  I hope that you continue to enjoy my future posts.  Please feel free to post any comments you might have.
